Beetles & Bugs Card for WWYS #117

Hello and welcome to the WWYS Challenge. This week’s stamp set is from the Occasions Catalogue – Beetles & Bugs; sadly another set that will be retiring on 31 May. I you love it, grab it now! Now I know some people don’t like bugs at all, but how adorable are these?! And you can use them for all sorts of fun backgrounds as well as focal points like I’ve done with my card today. I have always loved ladybirds. Do you remember the rhyme “Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home …” from your childhood? For me it brings back sweet memories of warm days and carefree playtime surrounded by nature’s gifts.

I started with a card base of Crumb Cake, a layer of Basic Black, and my top layer of Shimmery White, onto which I watercoloured some bright summery colours (Delightful Dijon, Crushed Curry and Watermelon Wonder). A white heat embossed leaf from the Vintage Leaves Stamp Set provides a background for my lovely ladybirds which I stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and watercoloured with Real Red ink. And yes, I fussy cut them! I also added Fine-tip Glue Pen to their bodies to make them look round and shiny like in real-life. The sentiment (from Endless Thanks Stamp Set) was also stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black directly onto the card front. Gold and clear sequins from the Metallics Sequin Assortment and a little of the Copper Trim (a new product from the soon-to-be-released Annual Catalogue) finishes it off beautifully.

TIP: Add dimension and shine with the fine-tip glue pen as I’ve done here with the ladybirds. Be careful though – it takes around 24 hours to dry completely!

Vertical Greetings Card for WWYS #116

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. This week we’re playing with the Vertical Greetings Stamp Set. I loved this set the first time I saw it. It’s simple and sweet, and the vertical greetings give your projects a point of difference. I wanted to incorporate the balled topiary image on a vellum panel for a soft look, so that was my jumping off point for my card this week. And I just happened to have Gorgeous Grunge on my craft desk, so from there the card just “grew”!

I used the thumping technique on the pot and leaves using a few different colours for each (Cajun Craze, Delightful Dijon and Basic Grey for the pot; Delightful Dijon, Garden Green and Cucumber Crush for the leaves; Soft Suede for the trunk). I white heat embossed the sentiment about a third of the way in from the edge after stamping the background in tone-on-tone style using Tip Top Taupe ink and cardstock. Then I simply attached the vellum panel with washi tape and added a strip of burlap ribbon on one side. I added some Cajun Craze hearts and a little bit of Clear Wink of Stella on the foliage and card done!

Sadly, the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set is now sold out, but the 2015-2017 In Color Stampin’ Write Markers are still available while stocks last, and the Playful Palette Washi Tape pack is available at 50% off on the Retiring List and only available until 31 May or while stocks last. Click here to shop all the retiring products.

TIP: Get inventive with vellum! Vellum can be tricky to adhere without the adhesive showing through on the front. Using washi tape to adhere it gets around that.

Thanks for visiting my blog. If you’ve left me a comment, thank you! You’ve made my day. Be sure to hop on over to the WWYS blog to see what everyone else has made and enter your own project. You could be our next guest designer!

Welcome to the very first Stampin’ Dreams Blog Hop! I’m excited to be a part of it, and I hope you enjoy the fabulous inspiration from all around the world. You are currently visiting Gail Davidson from Australia. We are showcasing retiring products from the 2016-2017 Annual Catalogue and 2017 Occasions Catalogue. I’m paying homage to one of my favourite sets from the Annual Catalogue – Grateful Bunch. It’s currently on the retiring list and available at 20% off so grab it now!

My card also highlights some other products due to retire on 31 May. We’ll be saying goodbye to the 2015-2017 In Colours. I’ve used Watermelon Wonder cardstock for my card base, and also the ink for sponging on the card base and flower. The large rhinestones I’ve used for the flower centre are also retiring.

I hope my project has inspired you. To continue on the hop and see all our projects, select the next person on the list below. You don’t want to miss any!

Beautiful You Silhouette Card for WWYS #115

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. Our chosen Stamp Set this week is Beautiful You. The amazing images in this set are quite retro / vintage, so I wanted to create something that would emphasise that quality. My inspiration came from the pictures below, which I found on the web when I was looking for ideas for this card the other day. Silhouettes were used to create portraits of actual people in the 18th and 19th centuries (amazing!), and were also used in jewellery making and pottery; do you remember the cameo brooches and the Wedgwood Jasper Ware pottery?).

Well, I ran with this idea and, using the “elegant” lady image from the set, created a cameo focal point for my card.

I’ve used the Layering Ovals dies to create the cameo look. I added a small floral image from That’s the Tag Stamp Set and copper embossed the splatter image from Gorgeous Grunge to ground the focal image. I also added a little Copper Metallic Thread behind and a few white hearts from the Metallics Sequin Assortment. It didn’t need much more so I heat embossed a simple one word sentiment from Beautiful You in white on black cardstock and this card is done! It was very quick to make.

That’s the Tag and Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Sets as well as the Metallics Sequin Assortment are all on the retiring list, so if you just have to have them, be quick! There’s a link to the list at the bottom of this post.

TIP: Sometimes less is more. Resist the urge to keep adding elements to your card. Lay the elements out on the card before fixing anything down so you can see what it will look like. You can play around – add and take away to see the difference.

Thanks for visiting my blog. If you’ve left me a comment, thank you! You’ve made my day. Be sure to hop on over to the WWYS blog to see what everyone else has made and enter your own project. You could be our next guest designer!

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with Special Guest Lea Denton

Welcome to the Crazy Crafters’ Blog Hop with special guest Lea Denton. Lea lives in the UK and has been crafting for over 25 years! Her designs are gorgeous. We are excited to be hopping with her today. You can check out all the yummy inspiration on Lea’s blog by clicking on her picture.

We are each CASEing (Copying and Selectively Editing) one of Lea’s designs today. The card I chose to CASE (shown below) is a fun spinner card, and I haven’t made one of these before (don’t ask me why). Lea’s card uses the Lift Me Up bundle, but I’ve decided to go with the Eastern Palace Suite for my version.

And here it is.

I love blue and gold together, so I heat embossed both sentiments in gold and used Dapper Denim with Gold Foil Paper and a gorgeous foiled paper from the Designer Series Paper pack. This suite is beautiful, and you can choose from two exclusive bundles that include freebies BUT they’re only available to purchase in this format until 1 June; they won’t be bundled in the Annual Catalogue, so get in early and get yours! Click here to see the offer. And here’s the inside. I chose to keep it clean and simple and just let the opulence of the gold speak.

To continue along the hop, select the person next on the list after me, Gail Davidson, to see all the gorgeous creations from Lea and the other Crazy Crafters.

Thanks for visiting my blog today. If you’ve left me a comment, thank you! You’ve made my day.

That’s the Tag Birthday Card for WWYS #114

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. This week I’ve made a pretty birthday card using images from the featured set, That’s the Tag. It can be purchased as a bundle with matching thinlits dies (but only until 31 May – it’s on the retiring list). It’s a great set for making tags, labels, cards or 3D projects – very versatile I think!

I’ve used a variety of techniques here including heat embossing, dry embossing and watercolouring for the flowers. And I just love how you can colour the gorgeous lace doilies from the Occasions Catalogue however you choose; I’ve smooshed the white side (they also have a Very Vanilla side) with black ink to give a dramatic mottled effect.

TIPS:

1. Add a strip of glimmer paper (or cardstock) to delineate one “section” from another when partial embossing.

2. Spritz your cardstock with water before embossing to stop it cracking. (I forgot to do that here!)

I’ve repeated the little flower image that I stamped as a border on the tag as well, and threaded it with some ribbon and metallic thread. Can you spy the sneak peek? The green used for the sentiment and leaves is a new In Colour – Lemon Lime Twist. I’ve always loved Pear Pizzazz but I think I have a new favourite green!

I finished the inside of the card with another smooshed lace doily.

Carousel Birthday in Gold for WWYS #112

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. I hope you’ve all had a relaxing and happy Easter break. This week we’re playing with the gorgeous Carousel Birthday stamp set. I just adore this set and I’ve used some elements from the coordinating Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit.

My card has a shaker element which I made by cutting the middle from one of the tags in the kit. All my stamping has been gold heat embossed and I just love the effect of gold paired with the pinky-orange tones of Calypso Coral. The sequins are also from the kit.

TIPS:

1. Removing the paper covering from the top of the adhesive tape prior to adhering it to your card will make it easier to manipulate it into the shape required.

2. To prevent sequins getting stuck to the adhesive tape around the shaker element, rub over the inside of the tape with an embossing buddy.

Sadly, we’ll be saying goodbye to this suite at the end of May. If you’ve had your eye on these products, now is the time to grab them as they’re on the retiring list. The paper I’ve used on the front of my card is from the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack which is currently 30% off, and the embellishment kit is 20% off.  I think these products will sell out fast and they’re only available while stocks last.

I finished the inside of the card simply with a coordinating sentiment in gold.

Weather Together Baby Shower Card for WWYS #111

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. This week we’ve been challenged to use the Weather Together stamp set. I needed a card for my niece’s baby shower, and the umbrella was perfect! Here’s my card:

As we already know that the baby is a girl, I went for shades of pink and also added green. I started by stamping some clouds on the Whisper White panel and then added some clouds die-cut from Irresistibly Floral Designer Series Paper which I had sponged in a couple of shades of pink and using the co-ordinating Umbrella Weather Framelits Dies. I then stamped the umbrella handle in Pear Pizzazz ink at the bottom of the Whisper White cardstock panel and topped it with a die-cut umbrella (from Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper) and a scalloped trim from Blushing Bride cardstock. The tiny hearts were die-cut from the Umbrella Weather  dies in Blushing Bride and Real Red, and I also used some sweetheart-shaped hearts (the fatter ones) that I had in my stash. Some were glued and others were elevated using rolled up Mini Glue Dots.

The sentiment is from the now retired Moon Baby Stamp Set from the recent Occasions Catalogue. It was white heat embossed on Pear Pizzazz cardstock and along with the umbrella, popped up with dimensionals. The finished touch was a coating of clear Wink of Stella on the hearts, followed by a layer of gloss using the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.

Balloon Adventures Pop-Up Card for WWYS #109

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. This week’s stamp set is Balloon Adventures. I love the amazing fonts in the sentiment images in this set! Here’s my card:

I went for a fun fold card with a pop-up element and it was inspired by a lady named Barb from www.barbstamps.com. Pull the sides of the card and the balloons pop up. How fun is that?!

You can write on the back of the card, which is also decorated.

Dragonfly Dreams Card for WWYS #108

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. This week’s stamp set is Dragonfly Dreams and Oh My! that dragonfly is just gorgeous! Here’s my card:

I wish you could see the sparkle on this card! I tried a different technique – with my ink smooshing I included a couple of drops of clear Wink of Stella so that it is dispersed across the entire inked section. I think it looks better than adding it later as you would see lines where the sparkle is and isn’t (if that makes sense!). I was really pleased with the way it turned out, particularly after deciding to do the ink smooshing after I’d already stamped the dragonfly! Phew!

The dragonfly was created using my MISTI and a few steps. I first inked up just the wings with Archival Black ink and stamped. Then I cleaned my stamp off and inked up just the wings again with Versamark and then stamped this and clear heat embossed them. I then used markers to colour the body and stamped again. The MISTI is great for techniques like this as you get perfect placement every time. I then watercoloured the wings making sure to vary the colour and leave some spots un-inked (for realism you understand!) and added some Wink of Stella. After using my Stampin’ Trimmer to trim off both long edges and leaving the dragonfly’s wings extend past the panel, I gave it some dimension by using my Paper Snips to just cut the wings on the left and used a bone folder to give them some “curl”.

Of course I ink smooshed the inside of the card too before adding the sentiment. You can see what I mean about adding Wink of Stella afterwards here. Thanks for visiting my blog. If you’ve left me a comment, thank you! You’ve made my day. Be sure to hop on over to the WWYS blog to see what everyone else has made and enter your own project. The Host Code Club gifts are completely FREE and an added bonus for choosing me as your Demonstrator and shopping with me. The code you need to enter online when you order changes each month, so be sure to use the current one. See the box below for where to find it and the link to take you there.
