OnStage Swaps and a Giveaway

posted in: Other | 0

I went to OnStage Local at the Gold Coast on Saturday and what a hoot we had!  I met some of my Crazy Crafter team mates for the first time and I can report that they’re not really crazy at all!  In fact they’re some of the loveliest ladies I’ve met!  Here’s a pic of us all:

GC girls

We got our very own 2016-17 catty – woot! woot!  You won’t BELIEVE how good this one is!  You are going to LOVE it!!!  Of course I’m not allowed to show you any pics yet, but if you’d like me to send you one when it goes live on June 1st, drop me a note via the Contact page, via email at [email protected], by phone on 0435 782 009 or navigate to Catalogues > Request a Catalogue in the Menu Bar at the top of this page.  Of course, if you already have a demonstrator who looks after you, you can request one from them too.  But if you don’t currently have a demo, I’d love to send you one.

Besides getting our hands on the new catty, we got to play with some of the new products, see product samples and demonstrations AND we got showered with gifts (products) from the new catalogue – SO GOOD!  I can’t wait to share some projects with you all, so if you haven’t subscribed to my blog yet, please do.

Another one of the fun things we as demos do when we attend Stampin’ Up! events is share our creativity around.  We take “swaps” to give to others and in return, receive swaps from others to give us inspiration and create new networks of crafty friends.  It’s so much fun.  Here was my swap for this event, a cute 3″ x 3″ gift card.

GC swap

Since I’m in a giving mood, if you can tell me which two stamp sets I’ve used to create this project, I’ll send you a little gift in the mail!  So leave me a comment, I’ll put the names in a hat and draw one lucky person out next Monday, April 25.  So watch out for that blog post to see if you’re a winner!  Good luck!

I thought I’d share with you some of the lovely projects I was given as swaps too.  There are some seriously talented people in the Stampin’ Up! family.  Thank you everyone – they’re gorgeous!

I love hearing from you.  If you have any thoughts about today’s post please leave me a comment below.  To purchase Stampin’ Up! supplies please use the Host Code WX2DTC43 during checkout to receive a thank you gift from me (unless your order is over $250 then you become the host and receive Stampin’ Rewards).

Art Deco Inspired Card and Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with Brian King!

posted in: Cards, Thank You | 40

CCBH w Brian KingWelcome to the Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with our Special Guest stamper Brian King! This month we are excited to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) any project that has been created by Brian.  We hope you find great inspiration from the projects.  You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog – Gail Davidson, or may have come from the person previous to me.  Be sure to click on the person listed under me further down the page to continue your journey on this blog hop.  We are thrilled that Brian said yes to playing along with the Crazy Crafters this month.  Thank you Brian!  I have created an Art Deco inspired thank you card for the hop today.  I hope you like it. 🙂

I chose to CASE this card of Brian’s:

Brian's_Inspiration_Card

I love Brian’s use of circles and layers.  When I first saw this card it reminded me of the grand and bold geometric shapes of the ostentatious and elegant art deco style which I adore!  So I took that idea to Google and decided on the iconic art deco shape which forms the focal point of my card.  I also googled colours of the period and decided on the classic art deco colours of black and yellow/mustard, which when translated into Stampin’ Up! colours become Basic Black and Delightful Dijon.  I love the way Stampin’ Up!’s colour collections cater for all situations!  So here’s the card I came up with:

Art_Deco_Inspired_Card-1

I kept the layered circles for the sentiment as they suited the style of card perfectly.  I used the third smallest die from the Circles Collection Framelits, the 1 3/4″ circle punch for the black layer, and the 2″ circle punch for the largest layer.  The thank you sentiment from the Happy Happenings stamp set is one of my favourite go to images for thank you cards.  There are also 13 other images in this set for all sorts of occasions in gorgeous fonts.  It’s a great set to have in your stash.  I adore it.

Happy_Happenings_Stamp_Set
Happy Happenings stamp set by Stampin’ Up!®

The geometric background layers were constructed as a panel which sits behind the sentiment and showcases it.  For the bottom black layer I used the Curvy Corner Trio punch (one of the Weekly Deals specials!) to add the decorative edges which I thought also fitted the art deco theme beautifully.

Art_Deco_Inspired_Card-2

There’s a lot of dimension going on with this card.  The base layer, the geometric panel, and each of the sentiment layers are adhered using dimensionals, as I wanted this card to be bold and extravagant to reflect the art deco style.

Once I had adhered all the layers, I felt like it needed something more – there was too much blank black space.  I considered using Crushed Curry candy dots but they detracted rather than added to the sense of opulence I was going for because they were too bright.  So I took some White Perfect Accents (also one of the Weekly Deals specials!) and coloured them with a gold metallic Sharpie, and then adhered them so they draw the eye from the bottom of the card up to the sentiment.

I think these colours epitomise the classic elegance of the art deco style.  What do you think?  If you like them too, feel free to save this image and share it on Pinterest.  You’ll also find lots more colour inspiration on my Colour Snapshot Pinterest Board.

Floral Wings

posted in: Cards, Love | 4

KBs Int SU Blog HighlightToday I’m joining my fellow Crazy Crafters for an International Stampin’ Up! Blog Highlight.  How exciting!  And you get to vote for your fave three!  The theme is love.

Here’s my card, which uses the gorgeous Hostess stamp set called Floral Wings.

Floral_Wings-1

I couldn’t resist embossing the butterfly in gold.  Doesn’t it look lush?!  And while it may look fussy to stamp, it really isn’t:  the flowers are all on one image, as are the leaves, and as they are photopolymer stamps, it’s easy to align them.  Love that!

Floral_Wings_SS
Floral Wings Stamp Set (Hostess) by Stampin’ Up!®

This project uses only one stamp set too, so it’s a great card to produce in multiples.  I did do a watercolour wash background in Blushing Bride and Soft Sky, but you could skip that too if you wanted.

Floral_Wings-2

I thought this butterfly deserved to be treated like the star it is, so I partial die cut it using the Bold Butterfly framelits to pop its wings up.  Seeing the red layer underneath makes it shine even more.

Floral_Wings-3

I used the same image that’s on the butterfly to stamp a trail of Blushing Bride and Real Red roses below the butterfly, and I used the single rose image from this set to stamp and heat emboss the rose on the sentiment banner, also heat embossed and punched out with the Word Window punch.

If you like the colours from today’s project, feel free to save and share this colour snapshot:

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with Dawn Griffith

CCBH w Dawn Griffith

Welcome to the Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with our Special Guest stamper Dawn Griffith! This month we are excited to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) any project that has been created by Dawn.  We hope you find great inspiration from the projects.  You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog – Gail Davidson, or may have come from the person previous to me.  Be sure to click on the person listed under me further down the page to continue your journey on this blog hop.  We are thrilled that Dawn said yes to playing along with the Crazy Crafters this month.

I have followed Dawn’s blog for a long time.  She joined Stampin’ Up! on 7 October 2003 and started her blog in 2006.  Her team is called the Glitter Queens.  For those of you who know of her, you’ll know how upbeat she is and how her enthusiasm shines through in every blog post and every video.  You would probably also know too, that Dawn loves unusual cards, the colour purple (her fave is Wisteria Wonder) and ….. GLITTER!  Lots.and.lots.of.glitter.

With that being said I chose to CASE this card from Dawn (from her blog post on 18 May 2012) – the Double Peek-a-Boo card.  When the card is closed there are two images in circles on the front, but when you open it, the magic happens!  A slider panel inside the card moves across to reveal two more hidden images.  Here’s the link to Dawn’s blog post which also contains a video.  It’s one that I’ve made before, but I’m “Doin’ it like Dawn” today!  Dawn, I hope you like it!

Dawn's_Double_Peek-a-Boo_Card

And here’s my card:

Double_Peek-a-Boo_Card-1

I’ve kept Dawn’s basic design but added a couple of tweaks – and LOTS of bling and glitter!  To stop the narrow internal slider panel from catching on the images that show through on the front of the card, I added two panels of Window Sheet to the two back panels (so that the slider panel is sandwiched between them).  I also added a 1″ strip of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper to the back of the slider panel to give added detail and finishing to the card’s appearance from the back.

For the card front I stamped the gorgeous flourish image from the First Sight Stamp Set in Versamark, sprinkled with Heat & Stick, heat set, sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and heat set again.  I think I got more glitter on myself, my work surface and just about everywhere else than I did on the card, but the results are stunning!  Believe me, photographs do not do it justice!

Double_Peek-a-Boo_Card-2

The inside was stamped with the same image just using Versamark ink to give a tone-on-tone look, and then given the glitter treatment with Clear Wink of Stella here and there.

The small floral image is from the Bloomin’ Love Stamp Set and coloured with markers in Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant and Pear Pizzazz.  It so adorable!  The sentiments, stamped in Perfect Plum, come from the Petite Pairs Stamp Set (yes, it’s been around since 2012 cos it’s an awesome set!).

Double_Peek-a-Boo_Card-3

The white circles around the images were punched using the 1 3/8″ and 2″ Circle punches, and I used the Updated Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack to pierce the decorative holes.  These were then smothered in Clear Wink of Stella and adhered over the front and inside images.

The final adornment was a double serving of 1/2″ Seam Binding Ribbon in Wisteria Wonder and Whisper White, and, I couldn’t resist – a large Iced Rhinestone!

As I held the finished card in my hand, I smiled to myself as I heard Dawn say “Oh, my gosh!  It’s so cuuuuuute!!!”  Thanks Dawn for entertaining and inspiring so many of us over the years!

If you love these colours as much as Dawn, please feel free to save this colour snapshot.

Dream Big and Crazy Crafters’ Team Project Highlight

Team_Project_Highlight_Banner

Yay!  It’s Friday!  And that means it’s time for another Crazy Crafters’ Team Project Highlight, hosted by our fabulous upline, Kylie Bertucci.  Thanks Kylie!  Mwah!  Be sure to check out all the fantastic projects this week by clicking on the banner above – and don’t forget to vote for your top 3 picks by clicking on the heart in the top right-hand corner of the image.  I came in at Number 2 last week, so thank you to all the lovely people who voted for my card!  So, here we go!

Dream_Big-3

This is one of those cards you actually have to hold in your hands to appreciate.  I couldn’t seem to capture the beautiful lustre and sheen on camera.  The flowers are a bright silver, and the background is a dark shimmery silver.  It was kind of a happy mistake as well, because I wasn’t expecting the foil DSP to show through the black marker as it is kind of matte, but it did and I think the results are even better!

Here’s a visual of how I did it:

Dream_Big-1

This technique would work equally as well on cardstock with stamped images.  I’m definitely going to try this again – it was so much fun to make, and easy too!

Dream_Big-2

I love hearing from you, so if you have some thoughts to share about today’s project, why not leave me a comment?  And if you would like to purchase the supplies to make this card, click on the images below to go to my online store.  If you place an order with me, I will send you a thank you gift.  Please remember to use the Host Code for April – WX2DTC43 – simply enter it in the box and click apply during checkout.  Don’t use this code if your order is $250 or more (before shipping and handling) as you become the Host and get Stampin’ Rewards!  If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at [email protected], or on 0435 782 009.  Have a fabulous day and thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Tin of Cards Congrats Card for GDP029

posted in: Cards, Congratulations | 8

Over at the Global Design Project this week there’s a colour challenge, and at first glance I thought “Ok, that looks pretty easy”, but let me tell ya, it was quite a challenge!

GDP029

Click on the Global Design Project image to see all the fabulous inspiration from the design team and participants.

A few days later, as often happens with me, I’ll be eating dinner, brushing my teeth, or doing something totally unrelated to crafting, and an idea will zap into my mind with no warning – yep, you know what I mean.  Anyway, I had this idea to use the three colours and weave them using strips.  But then, as also often happens, I modify my idea.  Once I laid the colours down in front of me, they took me back to the groovy sixties – you know, psychedelic pop, Austen Powers, flower power and groovy people!  YAS!  I knew what to do with them!  I cut them all into wedges of varying sizes, glued them to a piece of scrap cardstock and voila!  Instant grooviness!  I love how inspiration comes to us, don’t you?  Can’t you just see those http://www.mindanews.com/buy-amoxil/ brown and orange kitchens of the early 70s Australian kitchens?!  YUK!  Anyway, here’s my card:

And here’s the annotated view with all the products used:

Tin_of_Cards_Congrats_Card_for_GDP029-1

Here’s a closer view of the embossed sentiment from the Tin of Cards stamp set.  I though the font was groovy enough to fit the theme of the card.

What do you think?  Groovy huh?  This wasn’t a hard or time consuming card to make.  If you like it, why not give it a go?  I’d love to see your take on it.  Feel free to share yours on my Facebook page – GaGa Papercrafts.

And here’s a snapshot of the colours I’ve used today – feel free to save this to your computer:
