Beautiful You Silhouette Card for WWYS #115

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. Our chosen Stamp Set this week is Beautiful You. The amazing images in this set are quite retro / vintage, so I wanted to create something that would emphasise that quality. My inspiration came from the pictures below, which I found on the web when I was looking for ideas for this card the other day. Silhouettes were used to create portraits of actual people in the 18th and 19th centuries (amazing!), and were also used in jewellery making and pottery; do you remember the cameo brooches and the Wedgwood Jasper Ware pottery?).

Well, I ran with this idea and, using the “elegant” lady image from the set, created a cameo focal point for my card.

I’ve used the Layering Ovals dies to create the cameo look. I added a small floral image from That’s the Tag Stamp Set and copper embossed the splatter image from Gorgeous Grunge to ground the focal image. I also added a little Copper Metallic Thread behind and a few white hearts from the Metallics Sequin Assortment. It didn’t need much more so I heat embossed a simple one word sentiment from Beautiful You in white on black cardstock and this card is done! It was very quick to make.

That’s the Tag and Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Sets as well as the Metallics Sequin Assortment are all on the retiring list, so if you just have to have them, be quick! There’s a link to the list at the bottom of this post.

TIP: Sometimes less is more. Resist the urge to keep adding elements to your card. Lay the elements out on the card before fixing anything down so you can see what it will look like. You can play around – add and take away to see the difference.

Thanks for visiting my blog. If you’ve left me a comment, thank you! You’ve made my day. Be sure to hop on over to the WWYS blog to see what everyone else has made and enter your own project. You could be our next guest designer!

Crazy Crafters’ Blog Hop with Janneke de Jong

Welcome to the Crazy Crafters’ Blog Hop with special guest Janneke de Jong. Janneke lives in the Netherlands and until recently was an Artisan Design Team member for Stampin’ Up! We are excited to be hopping with her today. You can check out all the beautiful designs on Janneke’s blog by clicking on her picture.

We are each CASEing (Copying and Selectively Editing) one of Janneke’s designs today. The card I chose to CASE (shown below) is clean, simple and fresh. I love the shape of the card for starters, and the colours too, although I didn’t end up using them on my version. In fact the card I started out to make is nothing like what I ended up with!

Here’s my card:

My Island Indigo card base measures 20 x 21cm, scored on the short side at 10cm. I cut a piece of Whisper White just large enough to fit into the Celebrations Due TIEF and embossed it. I then stamped the large splat image from the Happy Celebrations Stamp Set in Peekaboo Peach, Pool Party, Watermelon Wonder and Island Indigo several times, making sure the debossed “celebrate” was covered. I added narrow (and I mean narrow!) strips of Whisper White card stock to create a border around the sentiment panel. Lastly, I white heat embossed another sentiment from this stamp set onto a strip of Island Indigo cardstock, created a banner on one end and attached it with dimensionals.

To continue along the hop, select the person next on the list after me, Gail Davidson, to see all the gorgeous creations from Janneke and the rest of the Crazy Crafters team.

Thanks for visiting my blog today. If you’ve left me a comment, thank you! You’ve made my day.
