Well this week’s Global Design Project challenge really challenged me. I must admit I was well out of my comfort zone with this one! But I’m very happy with the end result.
The challenge this week was to create a project related to the theme “Farm”. Here’s the banner for this week’s challenge: All sorts of farm animals immediately popped into my head, but I decided not to use animal stamps, instead stretching myself to make a punch art card (not my usual style at all). My little chicken quickly took shape and ta da! – I think she’s quite a cutie! She was made from So Saffron card stock using the Owl Builder punch and her wings come from the Bird Builder punch. I sponged her with some Cajun Craze ink and popped her up on dimensionals along with the sentiment.
Of course she’s the star of my card, so I wanted to keep the rest of the card fairly simple in composition and colour. I gave her a rickety Woodgrain embossed fence to sit on, sponged with Crumb Cake and Soft Suede, and some soft Cotton Paper grass (in case she falls off the fence with excitement!). The sentiment comes from the Wild About Flowers stamp set, embossed in white on Basic Black card stock. I thought the DSP from the Pretty Petals DSP stack looked like chicken wire and fit perfectly with the colour scheme AND the theme. Oh, happy day!
The inside of the card was finished off with more of the cute chicken wire DSP and the centre cut out using the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits. I hope you like my little chicken as much as I do. What do you think? Thank you to the design team for organising this week’s challenge, and thank you for stopping by.
Update: I’m so excited to share my news that this card was selected as a winner in the Global Design Project challenge. Woot! Woot! Thank you GDP!
