Using Watercolour Pencils on Black Cardstock – All Star Tutorial Bundle Design Team Blog Hop

I’ve used the same die that I used in my tutorial bundle project to make today’s card – Happy Birthday Thinlits. I used the large flower image from the Birthday Blooms stamp set to create a gorgeous background using Watercolour Pencils on Basic Black cardstock. I stamped the image in VersaMark ink and gold heat embossed it before colouring. (I also used an Embossing Buddy to prevent powder sticking where I didn’t want it to.) If you love colouring, this is a relaxing technique, and so stunning! I chose to use Crumb Cake cardstock for my card base, but you could also use Thick Whisper White or any other colour.

I die cut the happy birthday sentiment from Whisper White Cardstock and simply adhered it to the background using Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. I added a few gold Metallic Enamel Shapes to finish off the design.

What I’ve Been Up To, Holiday Catalogue Shares & Week 2 of Special Offers

WOW! What a week it’s been! There have been so many exciting things going on during the past week. My daughter had her 18th birthday yesterday, and there’ll be a joint birthday celebration later this month too as my niece is turning 21. And my niece and her fiancé have set the date for their wedding! How exciting! So I of course offered to make the wedding invitations, and I’m happy to say Emily was absolutely thrilled with the way they turned out! Phew! Here’s a pic:

I designed them from the ground up, including the text layout which has been printed on vellum. There was a bit of experimenting with the colours, but Emily gave her final “stamp” of approval (see what I did there?) to the purples! I made 40 all up, and all watercoloured by hand!

Botanical Builder Gift Set for GDP033

I love making boxes, and when it’s an unusual one and comes with a matching card, even better! I took up the challenge for this week’s Global Design Challenge. I really like colour challenges and this one is lovely because it has some of my favourite colours! My inspiration for this box comes from Jessica Winter’s Diamond Box. Jessica is an Artisan design team member. To see her post, click on the image below.

I’ve adapted Jessica’s design to make a tall box, and I’ve included a co-ordinating card to go with it.

I used the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies, and really went to town! It is a bit OTT but I was having so much fun! What do you think?

I decorated the lid as well as all around the box. The sentiment is from the Honeycomb Hello Stamp Set and the tag from Tags & Labels Framelits is threaded with Whisper White Baker’s Twine.

For the card I used the sentiment from the Birthday Blooms Stamp Set. Both sentiments were white heat embossed.

I love the unusual look of the box and how, even though this it’s tall (a whopping 18 cm), it still sits flat and is very stable. You could fit lots in it too!

Birthday Blooms Dear Friend Card for GDP028

Today’s post is a special one because I’m so excited to be casing a fellow Aussie demo – Jess Williams – in this week’s GDP challenge AND the lovely Kylie Bertucci is highlighting some of the Crazy Crafters’ projects on her blog tonight (7.00pm Queensland time) including this one! Woo hoo!! I hope mine will be one of your faves! I took inspiration from Jess’s card and included a soft and pretty floral image as well as embellishing with a trim.

You can never have too many friend cards on hand ready to pop in the post and this one is so sweet. It uses an image and sentiment from one of my favourite Occasions Catalogue sets (of which I have many!), the Birthday Blooms stamp set. The images are absolutely gorgeous and just beg to be watercoloured (so I did!). But the sentiments in this set are also soooooo pretty with their curly font style.

I started by making a mask from the Decorative Label punch for the sentiment and then embossed the images using clear embossing powder. Because the watercolour paper I used is not a bright white, I didn’t want the image outlines to look harsh. I used Blushing Bride and Rose Red for the petals and Wild Wasabi and Pear Pizzazz for the leaves. A dash of Daffodil Delight in the centre of the main image looks so pretty! I then took the negative of the mask and sponged inside with Crumb Cake so the sentiment would stand out on the card. It wasn’t quite defined enough so I traced around the edge with a Crumb Cake marker. I think these colours are perfect for soft and pretty watercoloured blooms. A few of the dotted image from this stamp set stamped in Crumb Cake and some of the clear sequins from the Metallics sequins pack sprinkled around filled in the white space nicely. The finishing touch was some Very Vanilla thick baker’s twine wrapped around the panel before it was adhered to a Rose Red base.
