Crazy Patchwork Card

Hello and welcome to my blog and today’s project. Have you ever had crafting ideas percolating around in your head for ages, and then one day the planets align – the perfect opportunity to use that idea presents itself and you instantly know that that idea is exactly what you had envisioned for your current project? It happens to me a lot! And today’s project springs from an idea I had when I first played with the lace image from the Grateful Bunch Stamp Set. That was way back in February last year when I made this embellished notebook! The idea was to make a card that looked exactly like a paper version of a popular quilting technique called “crazy patchwork”. In crazy patchwork, literally anything goes and it’s usually a mix of patterns, stitches, appliquéd flowers, beads, buttons – anything! Here’s an example:

So … a friend recently asked me to make a card for a work colleague who was leaving. I like to personalise cards to the recipient, so I asked my friend what this lady was like. She said “Well, she’s Scottish … oh, and she’s into quilting.” As soon as the words left her mouth, the idea that had been in the back of my mind for all those months literally hit me like a bolt of lightning. I couldn’t believe my luck and I was so excited. To be honest, this card was a real labour of love; it took me hours to create but I just adore it! And it was so satisfying to get that design out of my head and into my hands. 🙂

Well, after that exhaustive introduction, here’s my card:

Although the Warmth and Cheer paper I used is now retired it was perfect for a Scottish lady! And besides all the heat embossing, the paper piecing was what took the longest. Accuracy is key here! I started in one corner and worked across, adding pieces to a backing piece of photocopy paper until I was happy with the look. I then trimmed it down to suit my 6″ x 6″ card size. I used images from the Lovely Stitching Stamp Set and the Sale-a-Bration stamp set Delicate Details, which you can earn for free with a $90 purchase. Here’s a close-up of the embossing detail:

For the sentiment I used a circle cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. The “Best Wishes” comes from the Blooms & Wishes Stamp Set, and the “from all of us” comes from the Crazy About You Stamp Set.

Finally, I added the “You’ll be missed” sentiment on an extra piece of photocopy paper which acted as additional “pages” since there would be many people writing in the card. This sentiment is from the Wild About Flowers Stamp Set.

I also added some tartan paper to the envelope flap to finish off the project (see main image). Although this card took a relatively long time to make, I was so happy with the finished result. What do you think? Was it worth it?

Update 17 Feb 2017: I have added this card to this week’s Crazy Crafters Highlights. If you’d like to vote for my card, voting begins at 6:00pm AEST (7:00pm Daylight Saving Time).

Thanks for stopping by my blog. If you’ve left me a comment, thank you! You’ve made my day.

International Project Highlights – Love Theme

Welcome to our International Visual Blog Hop using current Stampin’ Up!® Products. We have all created this gallery of projects for you to be inspired by! We would love it if you could visit every one of our blogs and see a close up of our projects. Our theme this month is LOVE because as card makers we love spreading the love. You can see the gallery below and this will be on every blog that you click on so you will never be lost.

How many ways are there to say “I love you”? Well, there are lots, as you’ll see in the gallery below. Click on the images to go to each blog. You won’t want to miss any!

My CAS card uses the Crazy About You Stamp Set and two die sets – the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies from the Annual Catalogue and a brand new one I know you’re gonna love from the upcoming 2017 Occasions Catalogue, called Love Notes Framelits Dies.

By the way, if you don’t already have the Occasions Catalogue, you can order yours here. It starts on 4 January 2017 and I’ll be sending them out from December 1.

Back to my card. I die cut the heart and arrow from the Love Notes dies and the “love” from the Sunshine Wishes dies. I cut the arrow in half and adhered it to look as though it is piercing the heart and added a gold foil tip. The sentiment was layered up (5 layers) to add dimension, and both the heart and sentiment were slathered with my fine-tip glue to give a glossy finish. I also white heat embossed the “you” from the Crazy About You set onto Basic Black cardstock and adhered it with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

This was a really fun card to make. If you like it, please make my day and leave a comment and let me know. The Love Notes Framelits Dies will be available from 4 January 2017, but if you want them earlier you can join my team and get them on December 1st! You can purchase the other supplies I used by clicking here or on the Shop button at the end of this post and entering the current Host Code – SVTUHTJ2 – when you get to the checkout page.

Thanks for visiting my blog today, there are so many amazing ideas and inspiration you don’t want to miss. We know that you will love our gallery of projects made from Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators around the world!

You Amaze Me Shaker Card & Crazy Crafters Blog Hop With Dena Rekow

CCBH w Dena Rekow

Welcome to the Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with our Special Guest stamper Dena Rekow! This month we are excited to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) a project that has been created by Dena.  We hope you find great inspiration from the projects.  You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog – Gail Davidson, or may have come from the person previous to me.  Be sure to click on the person listed under me further down the page to continue your journey on this blog hop.  We are thrilled that Dena said yes to playing along with the Crazy Crafters this month.  Thank you Dena!  I have created a shaker card for the hop today.  I hope you like it.

I chose to CASE this card of Dena’s:

Dena's Card

I love Dena’s cut away card and the use of washi tape underneath.  I chose to do something similar, except I added a shaker element instead of the washi tape.

You Amaze Me Shaker Card-1

I chose Mint Macaron for my card base ‘cos I just love it!  And I paired it with Basic Black for a bold contrast.  I used Metallics Sequin Assortment and also placed a few Mint Macaron enamel dots in the shaker section as well as on the card front.

You Amaze Me Shaker Card-2

The “you” from the Hello You Thinlits was cut in Mint Macaron and adhered to the top of the card front, and the sentiment from Crazy About You Stamp Set was white heat embossed under the shaker panel.

Tip:  If you are using photopolymer stamps, you can bend them into a curved shape to add interest.

I used the brand new Foam Adhesive Strips (coming out in the new catalogue) to adhere the shaker components and the card front to the card base.  It was so easy to apply to the wavy edges of the cardstock.  I think I’ll be making a lot more shaker cards with this fantastic new product!

If you like this colour combination, please feel free to save and share it.  You can find more inspiration on my Pinterest Colour Inspiration Board.
