International Project Highlights – Engagement Card

iph Welcome to our International Project Highlights visual blog hop using current Stampin’ Up!® Products. We have all created this gallery of projects for you to be inspired by! We would love it if you could visit every one of our blogs and see a close up of our projects. You can see the gallery below and this will be on every blog that you click on so you will never be lost.

international-project-highlights-1 I needed to make an engagement card and took inspiration from the amazingly talented Teneale Williams for this one. It has a simple, elegant feel, using Elegant Eggplant for the card base with silver accents. The focal point is the stacked heart. The top layer is Silver Glimmer paper but the layers underneath are cut from Whisper White and SMOTHERED in silver glitter on the edges. I love the 3D effect this technique gives.

international-project-highlights-2 I also kept the inside simple with a strip of Silver Glimmer and a row of hearts underneath the sentiment. Both sentiments were stamped with Elegant Eggplant and clear embossed. Thanks for visiting my blog today, there are so many amazing ideas and inspiration you don’t want to miss. We know that you will love our gallery of projects made by Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators around the world!

Enjoy the Little Things Thank You Card

Today’s post is a lot longer than usual, but I didn’t want you to miss out on anything that’s going on, and there’s a LOT going on at this time of the year with Stampin’ Up!  Many products will be retiring to make way for the exciting new products that will fill the new Annual Catalogue.  If you currently don’t have a demonstrator, and you’d like me to send you a brand new catalogue for FREE, let me know so I can organise that for you.  Click on Catalogues > Request a Catalogue in the menu bar at the top of this page.  They’ll be going out in the mail on May 11.

Well, it’s Friday!  And that means it’s time for another Crazy Crafters’ Team Project Highlight, hosted by our fabulous upline, Kylie Bertucci.  Thanks Kylie!  Be sure to check out all the fantastic projects this week by clicking on the banner above – and don’t forget to vote for your top 3 picks by clicking on the heart in the top right-hand corner of the image.  So, here we go!

This card was so much fun to create.  While the design is nothing extraordinary or difficult, I’ve just used images and shapes in a different way, giving it a fun perspective.  The square image from the Enjoy the Little Things stamp set is echoed in the sentiment layer.  I’ve just turned it to create a diamond shape.  And I think this card would be a good unisex thank you card to have on hand, as it’s suitable to give to a girl or a fella.

The colour combination is vibrant and cheerful too.  Tangelo Twist has to be my favourite amongst the In Colours – I just adore it!  And I paired it with the (“masculine”?) Night of Navy.  After I’d decided on these two colours, it struck me how nautical they look too (must have been subliminal thinking!).  If you like these colours together, feel free to save the colour inspiration image below.

The background consists of an emboss resist image, a little watercolouring and splattering and drips – well, you get the idea.  You could do anything you want here really, a lovely soft wash or, like I’ve used, a bit of everything for a grungier (that’s a word BTW) look!  I think though, the stronger colours really make the crisp whiteness of the image pop.

And how about that gorgeous sentiment?!  I think this is one of my all time faves.  The beautiful script font pairs extremely well with the tall blocked font of the “you”.  It’s from the Happy Happenings stamp set.  It looks regal popped up on layers of Tangelo Twist and Night of Navy.

Finally, I’ve used Burlap Trim to blend the layers and provide texture and interest (I’m sure there’s a nautical link there somewhere!).  But rather than just wrap it around I’ve pulled some threads to give it a lattice appearance.  I love it when you can use one item in many ways, and I think this makes it the most versatile of all the current Stampin’ Up! range of ribbons and trims.

Here’s the encyclopaedic version for those of you who like to keep all your information in one place!

If you like this card and want to recreate it, get in quick because the Enjoy the Little Things stamp set, Tangelo Twist cardstock and ink, burlap ribbon and Squares Collection Framelits are all on the Retiring Products list!

Art Deco Inspired Card and Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with Brian King!

posted in: Cards, Thank You | 40

CCBH w Brian KingWelcome to the Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with our Special Guest stamper Brian King! This month we are excited to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) any project that has been created by Brian.  We hope you find great inspiration from the projects.  You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog – Gail Davidson, or may have come from the person previous to me.  Be sure to click on the person listed under me further down the page to continue your journey on this blog hop.  We are thrilled that Brian said yes to playing along with the Crazy Crafters this month.  Thank you Brian!  I have created an Art Deco inspired thank you card for the hop today.  I hope you like it. 🙂

I chose to CASE this card of Brian’s:

I love Brian’s use of circles and layers.  When I first saw this card it reminded me of the grand and bold geometric shapes of the ostentatious and elegant art deco style which I adore!  So I took that idea to Google and decided on the iconic art deco shape which forms the focal point of my card.  I also googled colours of the period and decided on the classic art deco colours of black and yellow/mustard, which when translated into Stampin’ Up! colours become Basic Black and Delightful Dijon.  I love the way Stampin’ Up!’s colour collections cater for all situations!  So here’s the card I came up with:

I kept the layered circles for the sentiment as they suited the style of card perfectly.  I used the third smallest die from the Circles Collection Framelits, the 1 3/4″ circle punch for the black layer, and the 2″ circle punch for the largest layer.  The thank you sentiment from the Happy Happenings stamp set is one of my favourite go to images for thank you cards.  There are also 13 other images in this set for all sorts of occasions in gorgeous fonts.  It’s a great set to have in your stash.  I adore it.

The geometric background layers were constructed as a panel which sits behind the sentiment and showcases it.  For the bottom black layer I used the Curvy Corner Trio punch (one of the Weekly Deals specials!) to add the decorative edges which I thought also fitted the art deco theme beautifully.

There’s a lot of dimension going on with this card.  The base layer, the geometric panel, and each of the sentiment layers are adhered using dimensionals, as I wanted this card to be bold and extravagant to reflect the art deco style.

Once I had adhered all the layers, I felt like it needed something more – there was too much blank black space.  I considered using Crushed Curry candy dots but they detracted rather than added to the sense of opulence I was going for because they were too bright.  So I took some White Perfect Accents (also one of the Weekly Deals specials!) and coloured them with a gold metallic Sharpie, and then adhered them so they draw the eye from the bottom of the card up to the sentiment.

I think these colours epitomise the classic elegance of the art deco style.  What do you think?  If you like them too, feel free to save this image and share it on Pinterest.  You’ll also find lots more colour inspiration on my Colour Snapshot Pinterest Board.
