Tap Tap Tap Hello Card

My card for this week’s WWYS Challenge Blog featuring the Tap Tap Tap Stamp Set (currently on the Retiring List ending 31 May 2016) highlights one of the new In Colours, Peekaboo Peach. I still don’t have a firm favourite yet – I love them all!  How about you?  We’d love it if you’d play along with us this week, and check out the wonderful inspiration provided by the other Design Team members.  Here’s an image of the stamp set we’re using this week.

And here’s my card:

Tap Tap Tap Card-1

The design is pretty simple, with a watercolour wash in Peekaboo Peach and Crumb Cake along with some watercolouring/shading on the typewriter.  I ruffled the ruched ribbon (say that 10 times fast!) to add a little somethin’ somethin’ and I think it looks so cute.

I’m really excited for the release of the new catalogue – only two more sleeps!  Woot! Woot!  You can start ordering here after 3am on June 1st.

If you need a catalogue, you can send me a request and I’ll get one out to you pronto! (Australian residents only)

If you like this colour combination, please feel free to save and share it.  You can find more inspiration on my Pinterest Colour Inspiration Board.

Endless Birthday Wishes Card for WWYS Challenge #65

I love a card that can be used for more than one occasion, and my card for this week’s WWYS Challenge, featuring the Endless Birthday Wishes Stamp Set fits the bill!  Yes, it does have a cake on it, but who’s to say it’s not a congratulations cake or a celebration cake for another special occasion?  Anyhow, you can see what the other Design Team members have created by clicking on the WWYS image below.  Want to join us and have a little fun?  You have until Sunday, May 22 at 10am to submit your entry.

#65 Endless Birthday Wishes

I decided to break out a few of the new In Colours for this week’s card – Emerald Envy, Dapper Denim and Flirty Flamingo.

Endless Birthday Wishes Card-1

I kept it pretty simple and just used jaunty angles for interest as well as a bit of embossing on the Emerald Envy panel (with the Decorative Dots folder – retiring May 31 – buy it in my online store for only $7.80 while stocks last).

This stamp set has loads of sentiments and you can put them together to customise your card.  I chose “it’s all about you” which is what makes this card multi-purpose.  I stamped all the sentiments in Dapper Denim ink (love it!), and watercoloured the cake with Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Soft Sky and Crushed Curry.  The dots in the background http://laparkan.com/buy-tadalafil/ were stamped in Soft Sky and mimic the embossed dots.

Endless Birthday Wishes Card-2

Rose Wonder Acetate Card for WWYS Challenge #64

Welcome to another WWYS Challenge post.  This week we’re using the Rose Wonder Stamp Set.  Click on the image below to see all the amazing projects from the design team, and to play along with us.

#64 Rose Wonder

I’m on a bit of a shaker ‘n’ copper kick at the moment.  When I started to design my project for this week’s WWYS Challenge, which is to use the beautiful Rose Wonder Stamp Set, I just knew I had to incorporate the dies that go with it – the Rose Garden Thinlits Dies.  I knew exactly how I wanted my rose to look, and created a copper embossed rose framed in black which, when turned over, is the exact reverse (as you can see from the picture of the inside of the card).  I couldn’t bring myself to just glue it down to cardstock.  That would have been such a waste!  So I sandwiched it between two pieces of Window Sheet and added the sentiment to the front panel using black Stazon ink.  So it’s a shaker card of sorts – pretty cool huh?

Rose Wonder Acetate Card-1

Apologies for the white reflection on the bottom left of this pic – it’s very difficult to photograph through acetate!

Rose Wonder Acetate Card-4

And here’s the reverse (inside).

Rose Wonder Acetate Card-2

And because the front is totally see-through except for the flower, I added a paper insert with the secondary sentiment.

Going Global Card for WWYS Challenge #63

It’s Monday, and that means it’s WWYS Challenge time!  This week we’re using the Going Global Stamp Set.  Click on the image below to see all the great inspiration from the design team and to join in the fun!

#63 Going GlobalDo you ever look at a stamp set and think “I don’t know where to start”?  That’s what happened to me with this one.  Maybe it’s because all the cards I’ve seen that use this set use muted or masculine colours.  I wanted to do something different, so I started with the idea of doing a twilight sky …

Going Global Card-1

By the time I’d finished I had used seven, yes SEVEN different ink colours!  Well, it is my first attempt at a scene with this much sponging, so I just kept adding and blending.  Lol!  I used Shimmery White cardstock as it’s better to sponge on and won’t pill like normal Whisper White cardstock.

To add detail to the scene I used my Basic Black and Basic Grey markers to draw some grass, and some white Stazon ink to add stars using a paint brush and flicking (messy but effective).

I white heat embossed the constellation image onto the background, and the sentiment (which I love!) onto a scrap of Basic Black cardstock, then punched it out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch.  I punched another circle in Sweet Sugarplum cardstock (a luscious colour from the new In Colours coming out in the new Catalogue), and offset layered it under the black circle using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  This panel was then adhered to a thick Whisper White base using more dimensionals.

Going Global Card-2

If you like this colour combination, please feel free to save and share it.  You can find more inspiration on my Pinterest Colour Inspiration Board.

Flower Patch Card for WWYS Challenge #62

It’s Monday again already?!  Where did the week go?  That must mean I’ve been busy.  Lol!  So it’s time for this week’s WWYS Challenge.  We’re using the beautiful Flower Patch stamp set.  Click on the image below to see all the great inspiration from the design team and to join in the fun!

#62 Flower Patch

I wanted the focus to be on the clear embossed Melon Mambo flower (the “you” in Be you {tiful}), so I chose soft pastels for the other flower images – Wisteria Wonder, Pool Party, Pink Pirouette and So Saffron and these were stamped off twice.

Flower_Patch-1

A cardboard template was made so the Brick Wall TIEF only embossed above and around the flowers.  Some Sahara Sand ink was applied to the folder to add definition.

Flower Patch Card-2

This gorgeous flower is the focal point of the card.  It was stamped in Melon Mambo and clear heat embossed.  The smaller image does not have a co-ordinating die as it is meant to be stamped on the larger one, so I chose to fussy cut both so I could layer them.  An Iced Rhinestone Embellishment finished it off.  (Notes:  the Iced Rhinestone Embellishments are on the retiring list.  You can see all the retiring products by clicking on the Farewell image at the bottom of this post.  The Flower Patch Stamp Set and the co-ordinating die set – Flower Fair Framelits Dies – can be purchased as a bundle, saving you 15%, but ONLY until the new catalogue is released; after that the bundle offer will not be offered and you will have to purchase them separately).

Flower Patch Card-3

Venetian Crochet Trim was used to define the areas of the card.  The sentiment was also stamped in Melon Mambo and clear embossed.

If you like this colour combination, please feel free to save and share it.  You can find more inspiration on my Pinterest Colour Inspiration Board.

Rose Wonder Sympathy Card for GDP032

posted in: Cards, Sympathy | 12

This week there’s a Case the Designer Challenge over at Global Design Project.  And this time we’re casing the lovely Krista Frattin.  To soak up all the fabulous inspiration this week, click on the image below to go the Global Design Project page.

GDP032

Krista’s style in soft and CAS, so I’ve taken that on board in my design for this challenge.  I also liked the simple pink and white that Krista chose for her card, so I’ve kept that too, as well as the stripes.

Rose_Wonder_Sympathy_Card-1

I started with a Whisper White card base and a layer of Pink Pirouette.  From some scraps of both colours I punched rows of hearts using the Hearts Border punch, keeping some of the punch-outs to use as embellishments.  The focal element is a flower fussy cut from the gorgeous Birthday Bouquet DSP.  I cut two extra flowers and layered them to give the flower dimension.

Rose_Wonder_Sympathy_Card-2

The sentiment is from the Rose Wonder stamp set, stamped in Basic Grey Archival ink.  I wanted the hearts to be elevated to give it a bit more interest, so everything was adhered with dimensionals.

If you like this sweet and simple colour scheme, please feel free to download and share the colour snapshot below.  You’ll find more colour inspiration on my Pinterest Colour Inspiration Board.

Art Deco Inspired Card and Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with Brian King!

posted in: Cards, Thank You | 40

CCBH w Brian KingWelcome to the Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with our Special Guest stamper Brian King! This month we are excited to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) any project that has been created by Brian.  We hope you find great inspiration from the projects.  You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog – Gail Davidson, or may have come from the person previous to me.  Be sure to click on the person listed under me further down the page to continue your journey on this blog hop.  We are thrilled that Brian said yes to playing along with the Crazy Crafters this month.  Thank you Brian!  I have created an Art Deco inspired thank you card for the hop today.  I hope you like it. 🙂

I chose to CASE this card of Brian’s:

Brian's_Inspiration_Card

I love Brian’s use of circles and layers.  When I first saw this card it reminded me of the grand and bold geometric shapes of the ostentatious and elegant art deco style which I adore!  So I took that idea to Google and decided on the iconic art deco shape which forms the focal point of my card.  I also googled colours of the period and decided on the classic art deco colours of black and yellow/mustard, which when translated into Stampin’ Up! colours become Basic Black and Delightful Dijon.  I love the way Stampin’ Up!’s colour collections cater for all situations!  So here’s the card I came up with:

Art_Deco_Inspired_Card-1

I kept the layered circles for the sentiment as they suited the style of card perfectly.  I used the third smallest die from the Circles Collection Framelits, the 1 3/4″ circle punch for the black layer, and the 2″ circle punch for the largest layer.  The thank you sentiment from the Happy Happenings stamp set is one of my favourite go to images for thank you cards.  There are also 13 other images in this set for all sorts of occasions in gorgeous fonts.  It’s a great set to have in your stash.  I adore it.

Happy_Happenings_Stamp_Set
Happy Happenings stamp set by Stampin’ Up!®

The geometric background layers were constructed as a panel which sits behind the sentiment and showcases it.  For the bottom black layer I used the Curvy Corner Trio punch (one of the Weekly Deals specials!) to add the decorative edges which I thought also fitted the art deco theme beautifully.

Art_Deco_Inspired_Card-2

There’s a lot of dimension going on with this card.  The base layer, the geometric panel, and each of the sentiment layers are adhered using dimensionals, as I wanted this card to be bold and extravagant to reflect the art deco style.

Once I had adhered all the layers, I felt like it needed something more – there was too much blank black space.  I considered using Crushed Curry candy dots but they detracted rather than added to the sense of opulence I was going for because they were too bright.  So I took some White Perfect Accents (also one of the Weekly Deals specials!) and coloured them with a gold metallic Sharpie, and then adhered them so they draw the eye from the bottom of the card up to the sentiment.

I think these colours epitomise the classic elegance of the art deco style.  What do you think?  If you like them too, feel free to save this image and share it on Pinterest.  You’ll also find lots more colour inspiration on my Colour Snapshot Pinterest Board.

One Big Meaning and a Very Special Blog Post

posted in: Cards, Thank You | 20

A Very Special Blog Post

Today’s blog post is a verrrrry special one!  I told you a few months ago that I’d have some exciting news to share with you.  Well now I can finally share it!  I’ve been absolutely busting to let you know … I’m a Crazy Crafter!!!!!!!  Yep, I’ve joined Kylie Bertucci’s amazing team and I can’t be more happy!!! Can you tell?  I’m absolutely ecstatic about joining this team.  Kylie is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING leader, and I am so excited for the future of GaGa Papercrafts.

KBs Int SU Blog Highlight

So today’s card is special too, as it’s the first one I’ve posted since joining the Crazy Crafters AND it’s being highlighted on Kylie’s blog along with some amazing projects from other Crazy Crafters as well as other talented crafters from around the world!  Woo hoo!  All the fun happens from 6 pm AEDT tonight, so make sure you have a look at all the amazing inspiration on Kylie’s blog and vote for your favourites.  The theme for today is “thank you”.  I made this card for my beautiful daughter Sam who helped tirelessly during our house move recently.

One_Big_Meaning-1

One Big Meaning

The sentiment comes from the One Big Meaning stamp set.  I masked off the words above the thanks and embossed it in black.  I did a watercolour wash over the sentiment and then stamped the splats from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.

One_Big_Meaning-2

Framing it Up

I paired some DSPs to frame the sentiment.  The green paper comes from the Cherry on Top stack and the black and white striped paper comes from the Neutrals stack.  Behind that some Basic Black cardstock to finish it off.  The smaller rounded rectangle framelit from the PL Cards and Labels framelits was used to cut the centre from the DSPs.  This is one of my favourite framelit sets as it’s so versatile; definitely not just for scrapbooking!

One_Big_Meaning-3

I hope you get some inspiration from today’s card.  If you have any questions, please feel free to post a comment or email me at [email protected]  I’d love to hear from you!  Thanks for stopping by today.

Masculine Valentine Card for GDP022

posted in: Cards, Masculine, Valentine | 6

Sketch Challenge

With tomorrow being Valentine’s Day and a sketch challenge on over at Global Design Project this week, I thought I’d put together a Valentine’s card, but one that could be given to a guy – no flowers, no “feminine” colours, but still expressing love.  I think it’s still sweet and lovely (but don’t tell him that … shhhh).

Here’s this week’s sketch. Click on the image to head over and see all the fabulous inspiration from the design team and entrants, or to submit an entry of your own.

GDP022

And here’s my interpretation:

Masculine Valentine Card

Something Old, Something New

I set out to create a card with a bold design and when I was looking through my stamp sets the wavy line and dotted line images from the Sunburst Sayings set made me think of Australian Aboriginal art.  So I began with the band across the top layer.  I wanted a bold sentiment for the front as well and after searching through my collection decided on the “you & me” image from the Perfect Pennants set.  Embossed in clear over Early Espresso it is strong and bold – just perfect!

Non-traditional Valentine Colours

Usually the first colours that spring to mind when you think of Valentine’s cards are red and pink.  Well I made a conscious decision to not include red or pink on this card (or flowers either!).  I love the pairing of Mint Macaron and Early Espresso and teamed with Sahara Sand I think they work very well.

Masculine Valentine Card

Theme

The wavy lines and dots were carried through in the use of the dotted DSP (from the Neutrals DSP Stack) which I trimmed with the wavy blade on my Stampin’ Trimmer and the dots around the sentiment.  These were pierced using the Updated Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack and then accented with a Stampin’ Chalk marker.  A few hearts from the Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy Stickers pack, backed with Mint Macaron cardstock provided the finishing touch.

Using Layers as a Design Element

Adding layers with differently sized borders can be utilised to add interest without “cluttering” a card with embellishments.  Used deliberately here, I wanted to highlight the colours on this card without overwhelming the other elements.  I think I succeeded.  What do you think?

XOXO Gail
