“Bubblegum Grunge” Card using Delicate Details for WWYS #106

Hello and welcome to this week’s WWYS Challenge. I’m excited to share today’s card with you. It’s one of those rare occasions where the seed of an idea results in a card that is even better than you imagined it. I’m dubbing the technique “Bubblegum Grunge” as it has an element of grunge to it in the background. Grunge is defined as untidy, nonconformist, lazy, dirty, grimy. Leave off the dirty and grimy, and that’s where I came up with the “bubblegum” bit – less hardcore than true grunge.

The card base is A6 size (A4 cut in half on the short side and folded in half) and cut from thick Whisper White cardstock. For the front panel I’ve used a piece of watercolour paper cut to a standard A6 size (10.5 x 14.9cm). I used two of the images from the Delicate Details Stamp Set and clear heat embossed in a few places, and then did a graduated watercolour wash with Blushing Bride, Rose Red and Real Red inks over the top.

TIP: Tape your paper down to a board using low-tack tape like painter’s tape or even washi to prevent  warping when you do a watercolour wash.

I then simply inked up the same images in the three pink/red shades as well as Crumb Cake, sometimes dabbing off some of the ink before stamping randomly, sometimes intentionally crooked, to get the grungy look I was after. The doily also got a bit of the watercolour treatment. I trimmed the piece until I was happy with it (it ended up at 9.7 x 14cm) and adhered it to the card base.

The sentiment on the front and inside are matching and come from the Suite Sentiments Stamp Set. This is one of my SO favourite sets – I really hope it’s in the next Annual Catalogue! I’ve white heat embossed it onto Blushing Bride cardstock and die cut it with the 2nd smallest  circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits, and then sponged a bit of Blushing Bride ink to make the white stand out more. I did the same on the inside:

I finished my card off with some copper Metallic Thread, Blushing Bride 1cm Stitched Satin Ribbon, Blushing Bride Solid Baker’s Twine, and a scattering of Enamel Shapes in each of three colours.

Cupcakes, Carousels, Suite Sentiments and an Embellished Notebook!

Hello and welcome to my blog today! Today’s project follows on from yesterday’s card project where I shared a card that I had made especially for a new team member. And today’s project is an embellished notebook that I made as part of her welcome pack. These are fun and easy to do and I just love making them. And they’re useful as well. I mean, who doesn’t love a prettily decorated notebook?!

Don’t you just love the theme? The patterns, the colours, the font – ahh, they all bring back childhood memories of the wonder and excitement of the travelling circus. So I thought it was a fitting suite to use as a new demonstrator gift – I remember the excitement when I first joined!

I couldn’t decide on just one delicious colour for the sentiment, so I used three – YUM! I used markers in So Saffron, Peekaboo Peach and Calypso Coral.

Tip: After colouring images with markers, huff on the stamp. Your breath reactivates the ink so you get a clear image.

The large intricate font in this sentiment is perfect for this technique. Here’s a close-up:

This sentiment comes from the Suite Sentiments Stamp Set, which was a gift for attending OnStage last November. It coordinates with other stamp sets in the Occasions Catalogue and the wording of this particular sentiment was just perfect for this project.

Crazy Crafters’ Blog Hop with Special Guest Amy Koenders

Welcome to the Crazy Crafters’ Blog Hop with special guest Amy Koenders. Amy is an extremely talented paper crafter from Georgia, Atlanta in the USA and our team is very excited to be hopping with her today. You can check out Amy’s blog by clicking on her picture.

We are each CASEing (Copying and Selectively Editing) one of Amy’s designs today. I chose the card below. I love the simple, elegant style of Amy’s card, and the little geometric strip peeping out below the banner. I took that idea, and the three panels to make my card.

I chose a blue/green colour palette and cut a bunch of the strip die-cut from the Flourish Thinlits Dies in Mint Macaron, Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point. Don’t they look gorgeous together? I adhered two each to panels in the same colours.

The sentiment is a sneak peek of a new item from the 2017 Occasions Catalogue – Suite Sentiments Stamp Set. I’m telling you, you NEED this set! It has so many gorgeous sentiments in the most adorable fonts! I used my markers to create an ombre effect. I used the brand new Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies to crop the sentiment and then adhered it to a layer of Mint Macaron using the Layering Ovals Framelits Dies. I just love how these dies all layer together. I offset the layering to add interest, and added some hearts from the Brights Enamel Shapes pack in Pacific Point. This image also shows the Wink of Stella I added to the die-cuts – so sparkly!

I added some Mint Macaron Sheer Linen Ribbon and finished the inside off with another of the die-cuts.

To continue along the hop, select the person next on the list after me, Gail Davidson, to see all the gorgeous creations from Amy and the rest of the Crazy Crafters. But before you go, if you like my design, I’d love it if you could take the time to leave a comment to let me know!

UPDATE 18/11/16: I’ve chosen to highlight this card in Friday’s Crazy Crafter’s Team Project Highlights.
